HANDBALL star Saeed Johar will carry the Bahrain flag and lead the Bahrain delegation in today's parade of nations at the 16th Asian Games' opening ceremony.
The kingdom's team will feature around 35 members, which will be a mix of athletes and officials, and the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has prepared a special traditionally themed parade for the squad.
"Saeed was very happy when we told him he would carry our country's flag," Bahrain's Chef de Mission Noaman Al Hassan told the GDN. "He considers it a real honour and we are very proud to have him lead our team out for the rest of the world to see."
In the previous Asian Games in Doha four years ago, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports president and Bahrain Olympic Committee chief Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa carried the flag alongside Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the now-retired Ruqaya Al Ghasra, was awarded the privilege.
