318 athletes to represent Qatar at the Asian Games

Doha: Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) announced yesterday that athletes representing 24 national sport federations will compete in 28 events during the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou city of China from November 12 to 27.
Around 318 athletes will represent the country at the Guangzhou Games.
The entire delegation will conist of 478 members, comprising of participating athletese, coaches, techincal and administrative officials.
Qatar athletes will take part in 28 events, including, handball, football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, shooting, equestrian, swimming, fencing, golf, tennis, table-tennis, wrestling, cycling, boxing, chess, squash, bowling, billiard, weightlifting, wailing (3 sports), taekwondo, judo, gymnastics and karate.
Also yesterday, QOC officials confirmed that all arrangements were made to receive the country’s official delegation in China.
The administrative mission under the chairmanship of Khaleel Ibrahim Al Jaber, Direcotor of QOC Sports Affairs Department, will fly to Guangzhou to finalise preparations ahead of the departure of the Qatari delegation.
Fifty six female athletes will represent Qatar at the Games, a clear indication of the growth of women sport in Qatar over the recent years.
Four years ago, Doha successfully hosted the 15th edition of the Games, the Doha Games were internationally praised and described as exceptional Games in Asian history.
The 17th Asian Games will take place in Incheon city, Korea, in 2014. Qatar’s participated in the Asian Games for the first time in the 9th Asian Games in Thailand held in 1978. Thereafter, Qatar have been continously taking part in the Games. THe peninsula
