China and France share strong ties and a passion for sports in Paris and Guangzhou

World Champion Chinese Foil team at the Paris 2010 Fencing World Championships supports the Annecy bid

The Annecy 2018 delegation currently in Guangzhou gained strong support from the Chinese Foil team who just claimed the World title at the Paris 2010 Fencing World Championships as Guangzhou is getting ready for the official opening of the 2010 Asian Games.
The 4 Chinese Foil fencing athletes Zhu Jun, Zhang Liang Liang, Lei Sheng and Hang Liangcai were competing yesterday in Paris at a most crowded and stunning Grand Palais arena, claiming Gold by defeating Italy for an epic victory. On their day of glory, the team took the opportunity to send a cheering message for Annecy 2018 CEO Edgar Grospiron and his team in prevision of their presentation in front of the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly tomorrow.
On behalf of his fellow teammates on the Chinese foil team, Huang Liang Cai declared in Paris: "We are thrilled to be here in Paris for the 2010 Fencing World Championships especially in light of the fact that the Annecy 2018 delegation is present in Guangzhou to attend the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Asian Games. China and France share a long standing friendship and commitment to the Olympic sports movement and we are very happy to have the opportunity to express our support for the French bid to host the 2018 Winter Games. France has a reputable expertise in organizing international sport events and we are confident they will offer the world a magnificent and memorable experience in the heart of the French Alps in 2018."
Strong Sports ties between China and France were especially fostered during the Beijing 2008 Games as the world-acclaimed French coach Christian Bauer trained the Chinese Saber team and brought them to Gold. This cooperation is only one example of the numerous projects between China and France which bring together the 2 nations.
From Guangzhou, Edgar Grospiron added: "Sport has the power to unite nations and we are proud to share this same passion. Emotion is very high today in Guanghzou as China is about to hold the biggest Asian Games in history. With more than 10,000 athletes participating, this competition is one of the most important sport events worldwide. This is especially inspirational for us on the eve of our crucial presentation to the Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly. We are more motivated than ever to bring the Games back home and to welcome the world to our mountains for a fantastic celebration of sport!"
The Asian Games will open today in Guangzhou. They gather more than 10,000 athletes who will compete in 42 sports during 16 days. The 2010 Fencing World Championships are currently held in Paris and will close on Sunday.
