SL Names Squad For Asian Games 2010

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced a 20-member squad for the forth coming Asian Games 2010
The 16th Asian Games also known as the XVI Asiad is to be held in Guangzhou in China from November 12 to 27 this year.
Cricket will become a medal sport at the 2010 Asian Games for the first time. The last time cricket featured in a major multi-sport event was at the 1998 Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The gold medal was won on that occasion by South Africa, who defeated Australia by 4 wickets in the final with New Zealand winning the bronze medal.
At a general meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia, held in Kuwait on April 17, 2007, it was announced that cricket would be included as a medal sport in the 2010 Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou. Matches would be played on a Twenty 20 format.
The Test status nations in the Asian Cricket Council, Bangladesh,Pakistan and Sri Lanka would compete with the initial plan that the Associate teams such as Hong Kong would also be invited to play in the inaugural competition. China will compete as the host nation.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to not to send an Indian cricket team to this year’s Asian Games.
The Sri Lanka squad: Jeewantha Kulatunga, Malinga Bandara, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Indika de Saram, Nuwan Zoysa, Dilhara Lokuhettige, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Dilshan Munaweera, Hasantha Fernando, T M Sampath, Gihan Rupasinghe, Kushal Janith, Mahela Udawatta, Isuru Udana, Gayan Wijekoon, Jehan Mubarak, Tharanga Lakshitha, Sajeewa Weerakoon and Dilruwan Perera.
