Government has derailed IOA president and CWG Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi's bid plans for Asian Games 2019. It has blocked the IOA chief's proposed bid and corruption seems to be the main reason for it.

The Centre has reportedly not given a go ahead to the Indian Olympic Association to bid for 2019 Asian Games, after charges of corruption clouded the Commonwealth Games (CWG).

IOA Sources said the Government is not keen after allegations of corruption on CWG. The sources said the IOA quietly bid for the 2019 Asiad informing the sports ministry only after the expiry of the June 30 bidding deadline to seek the mandatory government approval.

Why is Govt blocking bid?

- Level of corruption one main reason for government blocking bid
- Government unwilling to spend tax-payers money on Asian Games
- Government miffed they were not informed about bid

First, the level of corruption that is being exposed in the CWG 2010 has left the government very angry. This is thought to be one of the main reasons for the government to block the bid.

The government is unwilling to spend vast amounts of tax payers’ money on the Asian games especially after CWG 2010's budget rose exponentially.

And, the goverment is miffed that the they were neither informed nor kept in the loop about Kalmadi's bid for the Asian Games.
