Saina begins Asian Games with impressive win

Guangzhou, Nov 13: Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal started her campaign at the 16th Asian Games on a strong note by clinching an impressive 30-minute victory over Indonesia's Adriyanti Firdasari 21-16 21-17 in the first women's singles match.

Fresh off her golden performance at the Delhi Commonwealth Games, the Indian handled her opponent very well at the net. She hit 16 winners as against nine of Firdasari.

However, on an upsetting note for India, Saina's male counterpart, Arvind Bhat, lost his singles match of the men's team event. Bhat fell to Yu Hsing Hsieh 26-28 21-15 13-21 after a 52 minute battle.

The Chinese Taipei player dished out 22 smash winners against 25 of the Indian.
