KUALA LUMPUR: Shooting star Bibiana Ng is aiming to reach the final of the 10m air pistol event in the Guangzhou Asian Games next month.
It won’t be easy, not when she will have Olympic medallists from China for company.
But for Bibiana, nothing is impossible – especially after she displayed patience, perseverance and determination to win a historic gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the recently-concluded New Delhi Commonwealth Games.
But the road to fame and glory has not been an easy one for Bibiana.
She went through a low point in her shooting career after the 2006 Melbourne Games when she and three other shooters were tested positive in 2007 for taking banned substances.
While many would have thrown in the towel, Bibiana quietly channeled all her energy into training to slowly rebuild her strength and regain her confidence as she tries to climb to the top again.
Bibiana said it was her desire to represent Malaysia at the Olympic Games that kept her going. “I am happy to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. It showed that I am on the right track for the Olympic Games.
“My sole motivation is to qualify for the next Olympics,” said the 33-year-old Bibiana.
“The standard of shooters will be higher at the Asian Games.
“China made a 1-2-3 sweep in the 10m air pistol event at the last Olympics.
“I will be more than happy to make the top-eight final. I need to do well in major tournaments as it will help me to build up my confidence ahead of the Olympics.”
Bibiana, who resumed training on Thursday, said that for the last week she had been kept busy by friends and families wishing to congratule her for her feat in New Delhi and attending reward ceremonies.
Her employers, Police (PDRM), gave her RM5,000 at a ceremony last week while the Sarawak Sports Council (SSC) have also promised monetary reward.
