More sports events held to celebrate the 100-day countdown to the 16th Asian Games (Guangzhou Daily)
Guangzhou will celebrate the 100-day countdown to the 16th Asian Games on August 4. From July 19 to August 10, the organisers are staging various events in honour of the special occasion, according to Wang Xiaoling, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Municipal CPC Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of the Guangzhou Municipal CPC Committee, who is also in charge of the promotion and media services of the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.

On July 19, Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang led a delegation to promote the Games in Thai capital Bangkok, kicking off the celebrations of the 100-day countdown. From then on, the organisers will hold over 40 promotional events across China, 15 press conferences and major interviews plus 15 Asian Games test events and rehearsals - altogether more than 70 events which are expected to bring a nationwide Asian Games craze.
Some highlights of events will be the Mobolisation Conference of Guangdong Province for the Asian Games on the afternoon of August 4, the 100-Day Countdown Ceremony on the evening of August 4, the Guangdong Week Asian Games promotion at the World Expo Park in Shanghai from July 28 and the 100-Day Countdown Asian Games promotion in Macao from July 31.
Journalists will have the opportunity to visit some new venues of the Games on July 28 and 29, before interviewing relevant experts on July 30.
