Malaysia approves Asian Games delegation

27 July, 2010 - The Olympic Council of Malaysia has approved the number of athletes for two major upcoming multi-sports events. The decisions were taken at the 157th OCM Council Meeting held on July 24. The meeting approved the selection of 108 male and 80 female athletes with 93 officials for the XIX Commonwealth Games, Delhi 2010, in October. For the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou in November, the meeting approved the selection of 121 male and 79 female athletes under Category A and 88 male and 48 female athletes under Category B. Malaysia will be represented in 32 of the 42 sports on the Asian Games programme.
The council meeting also took the following action:
- Decided that the National Sports Associations who have outstanding payments of their Category B athletes and officials for the 25th SEA Games 2009 would not be permitted to send any athletes or officials under Category B for future Games, until their outstanding payments are settled.
- Approved the Malaysian Olympic Partnership Programme (MOPP) proposed by Dentsu Malaysia.
- Approved the appointment of Y. Bhg. Dato James Selvaraj, the Senior Manager (Marketing) of BATA, a long-term sponsor for OCM, to be the Chef de Mission for the 2nd Asian Beach Games in Muscat from December 8 to 16.
- Approved the Malaysian Contract Bridge Association and the Triathlon Association of Malaysia to be Associate Member of OCM.
- Approved Taekwondo Malaysia to be an Ordinary Member of OCM, only when it fulfills the conditions that its states affiliates have been officially established and its office bearers duly elected.
