Altogether 24 players including six medalists of the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) were selected in the first stage of qualifiers. Only the medal winners of SAG under kumute are directly given entry to the second round. The kata medalists in SAG need to participate from the very first round.
A team comprising Kushal Shrestha, Parshuram Bastola and Ganesh Bahadur Thing had won bronze in kata in SAG. Shrestha, also a bronze medalist, got direct entry to the second round. Bastola did not compete in the qualifiers and Thing was defeated.
In women´s 50 kg category, Subhadra Shrestha, Kalpana Basnet and Mallika Thapa were selected and in 55 kg SAG medalist Anu Adhikari, Roji Nagarkoti and Sarita Shrestha made it through to the first round. In 61 kg, SAG gold medalist Gangadevi Adhikari, Laxmi Bhatta and Anupama Magar and in 68 kg Mina Pathak, Tara Gurung and Manju Ale were selected.
In men´s 55 kg category, SAG medalist Sunil Lama, Rabindra Dahal and Manikumar Sunuwar, in 60 kg SAG medalist Binod Maharjan, Ram Limbu and Bishnu Shrestha, in 66 kg SAG medalist Kushal Shrestha, Bharat Koli and Dipesh Shrestha were selected.
Similarly, in 75 kg SAG gold medalist Binod Shakya, Ganesh Bahadur Gurung and Lekhnath Mainali were selected.
Eight players each in men´s and women´s category will be eliminated from the second round. Four male and female players each will be selected for the Guangzhou Asiad.
Archery players selected
Nepal Archery Association has also selected five players, including one reserve player, for the Asiad.
Prem Prasad Pun, Asim Serchan, Jeet Bahadur Moktan and Ramesh Pun have been selected for the event while Naresh Karki is the reserve player. In total, seven archers participated in the selection match held at Kirtipur.
The Asiad will be held from November 12 later this year.
