Singapore U-23s get nod for 2010 Asian Games

The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) has given our National U-23 team the green light to be a part of Team Singapore at November's Asian Games in Guangzhou, China following a successful appeal.

This will mark Singapore football's second successive appearance at the quadrennial games after taking part in Doha 2006. The U-23 team, with the majority of the players from last year's SEA Games bronze medal winning squad, will be boosted by the presence of three 'over-aged' players as allowed by competition rules during the competition in Guangzhou.

Says National Teams and Young Lions Manager Eugene Loo upon hearing the good news, "We are delighted that our appeal has been successful and we would like to thank the SNOC and SSC for their faith in the future of Singapore football. The Asian Games will provide our players with a wonderful opportunity to compete against some of the top teams in Asia in a competitive environment.

"The majority of this team has been together for a few years now and they will form the nucleus of our senior team in the years to come and this exposure will stand them in good stead as we continue to raise the level of Singapore football in line with the objectives of our Strategic Plan."
