The recent impetus given to sports in general in the country, thanks the Commonwealth Games, seems to be continuing. At a recent do, Samsung India Electronics Pvt Limited launched their Sports Ratna Program, whereby the company will provide scholarship support to 10 key Indian sportspersons who are preparing for the forthcoming 16th Asian Games 2010, to be held in November in Guangzhou, China.

The 10 athletes who have been chosen to be part of the program are Abhinav Bindra, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Gagan Narang, Ranjan Sodhi (the shooters were not present because of an ongoing championship), Vijender Singh Beniwal, Akhil Kumar, Nanao Singh Thakchom, Mayengbam Suranjoy Singh, Sushil Kumar and Ramesh Kumar. The Samsung Sports Ratna Program is in the line with the Samsung Olympic Ratna Program established by the company for the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics, wherein they had supported top ranking athletes across individual sports disciplines with their training expenses. Samsung India Electronics Pvt Limited is the official partner of the Indian contingent.

Encouraged by the success of our Olympic Ratna Program at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, this year we have increased the number of athletes being supported for the Asian Games to 10 sportspersons. Our association with the Asian Games to support
the Indian contingent and these top performing athletes is our contribution to enriching the sporting culture in the country.”
