MVP boxing meet winners enjoy edge

July 27, 2010, 5:48pm
Winners in the recent first Manny V. Pangilinan International Boxing Cup last week will have an extra edge over the rest of the members of the RP training pool in securing berths to the Philippine team for the Guangzhou Asian Games this November.
This was the consensus of Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP), saying the inaugural event is part of the basis in selecting the members of the RP squad.
Eight boxers – five female and three male – stood out in the MVP Cup by winning their respective divisions in the event held at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Emerging winners were Charly Suarez (featherweight), Jeogin Ladon (light), Delfin Boholst (welter), Josie Gabuco (pin), Alice Aparri (light fly), Annie Albania (fly), Annalisa Cruz (bantam) and Nesthy Petecio (feather).
The women’s squad, however, outshone its male counterparts by sweeping all the five division contested in the five-day event.
