MAAU Championship Deferred To Sept

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Amateur Athletic Union (MAAU) Closed Athletic Championship scheduled for July 24-26 has been deferred to Sept 24-26.

MAAU deputy president Karim Ibrahim said this was because many national athletes were abroad while some were making final preparation for the Asean Schools Games, Youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.

"The athletes are competing in championships that form part of qualifying for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

"This include the championships in Belgium and Germany," he told Bernama.

The MAAU championship will be held at National Sports Council (NSC) Mini Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Karim said three athletes had qualified for Commonwealth Games and seven qualified for the Asian Games.

They are walkers Teoh Boon Lim and Lo Chong Sieng, pole vaulter Roslinda Samsu, higher jumper Lee Hup Wei and Norjannah Hafiszah, Nurul Sarah, Siti Fatimah, Yee Yi Ling and Cynthia Manghing (4x100m women's relay).

"The athletes are training in Europe and the United States. MAAU is counting on Roslinda, Norasheela and Hup Wei to win gold at the Asian Games," he added.

Muhd Ajmal Aiman (110m hurdles), Mohd Fahme Zamzam Mohamed (pole vault) and S.Navin Raj (high jump) had qualified for Singapore Youth Olympic Games in Aug.
