The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), the country’ s largest bank, said Thursday its 400 branches nationwide have helped organizer of the 16th Asian Games sell nearly 18,000 tickets so far.
The 16th Asian Games, Asia’s largest sports event, is to be held in Guangzhou, capital city of southern Guangdong Province from November 12-27 this year.
The ICBC also said its internet banking has so far handled a total of 3,800 transactions with a total value worth 6.7 million yuan (about 1 million U.S. dollars).
Ticket sales of the Games began on May 20. The organizer had allotted 200,000 tickets during the first phase of selling, which accounted for only 10 percent of the total number of tickets to be sold to spectators.
Mass selling of the tickets were expected in October, Yuan Yue, a Tickets Department official of the Guangzhou Asian Games earlier said.
