Taiwan wins gold in cycling road race

Guangzhou, China, Nov. 23 (CNA) Cyclist Hsiao Mei-yu won Taiwan's 10th gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou Tuesday by winning the 100-kilometer women's individual road race.

Hsiao won gold in a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 46.12 seconds, edging out Indonesia's Santia Tri Kusuma and China's Zhao Na by roughly half a second in a sprint finish.

It was Hsiao's second medal of the Asian Games. She won Taiwan's first medal at the multi-sport competition on Nov. 13 by taking bronze in the women's 500 meter time trial.

Hsiao's win increased Taiwan's gold medal haul in Guangzhou to 10, surpassing the number won at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, and equaling the total won at the 2002 Asiad in Busan, South Korea.
