Commonwealth Express arrives in city

The Commonwealth Express arrived at the Chandigarh Railway Station on Friday. The train with its colourful coaches is carrying detailed exhibits of the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and latest playing equipment. Replicas of stadiums on display also attracted crowds in large numbers.

UT Finance-cum-IT Secretary Sanjay Kumar inaugurated the Chandigarh section of the special train. The exhibition will remain open for visitors for two days.
Speaking about the concept of the Commonwealth Express, Kumar said, “The exhibits are full of information and the ways used to reach out to the common man is laudable.”
The train is designed to promote the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and has 11 coaches — five of which feature rare Games memorabilia while six are devoted to showcasing Information Technology initiatives. The train has a 101-day journey schedule and is expected to cover 24 states, stopping at 48 major stations.
