Singapore: After the disappointment of missing out on the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™, Singapore are turning their attentions to the Asian Games and December’s AFF Suzuki Cup with English side Burnley providing the opposition for a Singapore select on July 24.

With the under 23 Asian Games taking place in Guangzhou in November followed by the ASEAN region’s premier tournament a month later, Singapore coach Radojko Avramovic is keen to use the first visit to Asia of the Clarets to assess his options ahead of the two end-of-year tournaments.

“This game (against Burnley) will give me the chance to examine the players in the Asian Games Team that did not make it to our Myanmar trip recently,” Avromovic told the Football Association of Singapore’s website.

The 60-year-old former Oman and Kuwait coach, who led Singapore to back-to-back ASEAN titles, continued:

“We have also arranged some friendlies for the National Team against Thailand and three teams in Serbia, so this game will provide very good preparation for the players.
“At the same time, we can bring three ‘overage’ players for the Asian Games in China, so this will give me a good chance to assess my team.”
